Curtis wins 2 S.J. titles, helps O.C. to relay win ‣ Ocean City Sentinel

FRANKLINVILLE — Ocean City junior Sophia Curtis was a double winner at the South Jersey Group III track and field meet and Mainland senior Emma Crozier-Carole took the title in the high jump.

Other Mustangs and Red Raiders had medal finishes in multiple events over the weekend at Delsea Regional High School..

Curtis won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.51. Mainland freshman Camryn Demorat was ninth in 1:08.20 and Ocean City freshman Callie Duff was 14th in 1:13.45.

Curtis also won the triple jump with her leap of 39’8". Mainland senior Kalla Tocci-Rogers was fifth at 36’0.5". Mainland junior Sienna Bodkin was 10th at 33’6" and teammates Aryanna Perez was 13th at 32’.

The Red Raiders took the gold in the 4×800 relay in 9:48.92 with Maeve Smith, Chloe Care, Zoe Zammit and Elaina Styer. Mainland's relay was third in 9:59.57. Running for the Mustangs were Ava McDole, Gillian Lovett, Emma Preissman and Mackenzie Miller.

Crozier-Carole won the high jump, clearing 5’4", and Tocci-Rogers was fifth at 5’2". Ocean City's Styer was fourth at 5’2" and Red Raider Callie Duff was seventh at 4’10" and junior McKenna Chisholm was 10th at 4’8". Mainland's Caitlyn Lin, a junior, was 12th at 4’8".

Curtis also finished second in the 400 meter dash in 56.04 seconds behind Timber Creek's Nayla Jones, who won in 55.83 seconds.

Crozier-Carole finished second in the long jump by leaping 18’6". Ocean City's Styer was fourth at 17’9" and Curtis fifth at 17’8.5". Bonczek was seventh at 17’5.25" and teammate McKenna Pontari 13th at 16’8".

Crozier-Carole was eighth in the 100 meter hurdles final in 17.15 seconds.

Red Raider sophomore Maeve Smith was second in the 3200 meters in 11:17:22 and Mustang junior Gillian Lovett was third in 11:26.70. Mainland's Sophie Goldstein, a junior, was ninth in 12:39.04 and Ocean City freshman Sadie Heyman 13th in 13:16.94.

Smith also was second in the 1600 meters, finishing in 5:09.77 behind Delsea Regional senior Lillie Widmer, who won in 5:08.43. Mainland freshman Emma Preissman was sixth in 5:21.96, Ocean City junior Frankie Ritzel was 11th in 5:37.11, Mainland sophomore Mackenzie Miller was 13th in 5:46.20 and Red Raider senior Olivia Palmieri 15th in 5:48.20

Ocean City's Styer was fourth in the 800 meters with her time of 2:23.26. Preissman was 13th in 2:30.4. Highland Regional senior Grace Wassell won in 2:20.15.

The Mustang 4×100 relay team was with in 50.34 seconds and Ocean City's team was sixth in 51.39 seconds. Timber Creek won in 47.32 seconds.

Mainland's 4×400 relay was seventh in 4:14.82 and Ocean City's team 12th in 4:34.39.

Ocean City's Sophia Whelan, a junior, was 12th in the discus with her throw of 93’6". Winslow Township sophomore won at 137’.

Bodkin was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 9’6". Teammates Lauren Crino and Monica Todorov were seventh and eighth, respectively, clearing 9’.

Ocean City sophomore Naomi Nnewihe was ninth in the 100 meter dash preliminaries with her time of 13.97 seconds and Mainland senior Paige Bonczel was12th in 13.15 seconds.

Mustang Kassandra Bretones was ninth in the javelin, throwing a distance of 91’7". Teammate Sydney Booth was 16h at 85’11".

Mainland freshman Anayah Usher was 14th in the shot put with her throw of 33’5".
